Seller Fulfilled Prime: What UK Sellers Need to Know

How to get the Prime badge while fulfilling orders yourself and whether it makes sense for your business.

What Seller Fulfilled Prime Means

Seller Fulfilled Prime allows you to display the Prime badge on your products while handling fulfilment from your own warehouse or location. Instead of sending stock to Amazon's fulfilment centres, you ship directly to customers and meet Amazon's Prime delivery standards. This gives you the Buy Box and conversion benefits of Prime without the FBA fees.

The Requirements Are Strict

Amazon does not hand out Prime badges easily to self-fulfilling sellers. You must demonstrate consistently fast and reliable delivery. The typical requirements include offering one-day or two-day delivery, maintaining a very low late shipment rate (below 0.5 percent), maintaining a very low cancellation rate, and using Amazon Buy Shipping for the vast majority of orders. You also need to use trackable delivery methods.

There is usually a trial period where you must meet these standards before gaining full SFP status. During the trial, Amazon monitors your performance closely and will remove your eligibility if you fall below the required thresholds.

Who SFP Suits

SFP makes the most sense for sellers who already have professional fulfilment operations — a warehouse, staff, and established courier relationships. If you are shipping from your spare bedroom, meeting the delivery speed and consistency requirements will be extremely difficult.

It is particularly attractive for sellers of large or heavy items where FBA fees are prohibitive. Products like furniture, large appliances, or bulky equipment can be expensive to send to Amazon and expensive to store. Fulfilling these yourself while keeping the Prime badge can save significant money.

Costs to Consider

While you save on FBA fees, SFP has its own costs. You need to offer free delivery to Prime members, cover your own shipping costs, maintain warehouse space, and handle customer returns directly. When you add up all these costs, SFP is not always cheaper than FBA — it depends on your product type, volume, and existing infrastructure.

The Practical Reality

For most small to medium Amazon sellers, FBA remains the simpler and often more cost-effective option. SFP is a specialist tool for sellers with specific needs and existing logistics capabilities. If you are considering SFP, run a detailed cost comparison against FBA for your specific products and volumes before committing to the infrastructure investment it requires.
