Red Flags When Choosing an FBA Prep Centre

Warning signs that a prep centre might not deliver the service quality your business needs.

Slow or No Communication

If a prep centre takes days to respond to emails or never answers their phone, this is a major red flag. When you need to know the status of a shipment, resolve an issue, or ask a question about your stock, delays in communication cost you time and money. Unresponsive prep centres during the enquiry stage are unlikely to improve once they have your business.

No Clear Pricing Structure

If a prep centre cannot provide a clear, written price list, be cautious. Vague pricing leads to unexpected charges and disputes. You should know exactly what you will pay per unit, per delivery, and for any additional services before committing. Hidden fees that appear on your first invoice are a sign of a prep centre that prioritises short-term profit over long-term client relationships.

No Physical Address or Facility Photos

A legitimate prep centre should be willing to share their address and show you their facility — either in person or through photos and videos. Prep centres operating from chaotic home garages or without proper storage conditions risk damaging your stock. If they will not show you where your products will be stored and processed, ask yourself why.

No Insurance or Liability Coverage

What happens if a delivery is lost, stock is damaged, or a prep error costs you money? A professional prep centre carries appropriate insurance and has clear liability policies. If they cannot tell you how they handle errors and compensation, your stock is at risk without recourse.

Unrealistic Promises

A prep centre promising next-day turnaround on all orders at the lowest prices in the UK is likely overpromising and underdelivering. Experienced prep centres set realistic expectations and consistently meet them. Unrealistic promises usually precede disappointment — either the turnaround slips, the quality suffers, or hidden charges appear to make the numbers work.

No References or Reviews

Established prep centres have satisfied clients willing to vouch for their service. If a prep centre has no reviews, no testimonials, and no references they can share, they are either very new (higher risk) or have dissatisfied clients they do not want you talking to. Check Google reviews, Facebook groups, and Amazon seller communities for real experiences.
