How Fees Scale with Size
Fulfilment fees increase significantly with each size tier. A small standard item might cost £1.90 to fulfil, while a large oversize item could cost £8–£15 or more. Storage fees also increase for oversize items, though the per-cubic-foot rate is actually lower than standard items — the total cost is higher simply because larger items take up more space.
Despite the higher fees, many oversize items remain profitable because retail prices are proportionally higher and competition is thinner. Fewer sellers bother with large items due to the complexity, creating opportunities for those who do.
Prep Requirements for Large Items
Heavy items require specific labelling. Products over 15kg must display a "Team Lift Required" label on the box. Items over 23kg need a "Mechanical Lift Required" label. These labels are essential — Amazon warehouse staff use them to determine safe handling procedures.
Packaging must be sturdy enough to protect the product during warehouse handling and shipping. For heavy items, reinforced cardboard or double-walled boxes are typically necessary. The product should not shift inside the box during transit.

The key is running the numbers carefully. Higher fees mean your minimum viable margin is larger, so you need better sourcing prices or higher selling prices (ideally both) to make it work.
FBA vs FBM for Oversize
For some oversize items, FBM might actually be more cost-effective than FBA. If you have access to competitive shipping rates and can store the items yourself, the savings on FBA fulfilment fees could outweigh the Buy Box advantage of FBA.
