The Individual Plan
The Individual plan has no monthly subscription fee. Instead, Amazon charges you £0.75 for every item you sell, on top of the standard referral fees. This plan is designed for people who are just testing the waters or selling a small number of items.
With the Individual plan, you can list products, fulfil orders, and access basic seller support. However, several features are locked out — you cannot run Amazon PPC advertising, you do not get access to detailed business reports, and you cannot use certain listing tools like bulk uploads.
The Professional Plan
The Professional plan costs £25 per month (excluding VAT) with no per-item selling fee. This plan unlocks the full suite of Seller Central tools, including Amazon advertising (Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands), detailed business reports, the ability to sell in restricted categories (once approved), bulk listing tools, and eligibility for the Buy Box.
That last point is critical. Individual plan sellers are technically not eligible for the Buy Box, which is where the vast majority of purchases happen. Without Buy Box eligibility, your sales potential is severely limited.
The Break-Even Point
The maths here is straightforward. The Professional plan costs £25 per month. The Individual plan charges £0.75 per sale. Divide £25 by £0.75 and you get approximately 33 items. If you sell more than 33 items per month, the Professional plan is cheaper. If you consistently sell fewer than that, the Individual plan saves money.
But this is only part of the picture. The features you lose on the Individual plan — particularly advertising and Buy Box eligibility — typically cost you more in missed sales than the £25 monthly fee.
Which Plan Should You Choose?
If you are genuinely just starting out and want to list a handful of items to learn how Amazon works, the Individual plan lets you do that without a monthly commitment. Once you are ready to take it seriously — buying stock intentionally, running ads, and scaling up — switch to Professional.
Most sellers who are building an FBA business from the start go straight to the Professional plan. The advertising tools alone justify the cost, and £25 per month is a modest business expense for what you get in return.
Switching Between Plans
You can switch between plans at any time through your Seller Central settings. There is no penalty for switching, and it takes effect almost immediately. Some sellers start on Individual while they set up their first listings and switch to Professional once stock is on its way to Amazon.
VAT on Your Subscription
The £25 Professional plan fee is subject to VAT, making the actual cost £30 per month if you are not VAT-registered. If you are VAT-registered, you can reclaim this. It is a small detail but worth knowing for your bookkeeping.
The Bottom Line
For anyone planning to build a real Amazon FBA business, the Professional plan is almost always the right choice. The Buy Box eligibility and advertising access are too important to forgo, and 33 sales per month is a low bar to clear once you have stock in Amazon's warehouses.
At Precision, most of our clients are on Professional plans because they are building businesses, not just selling the odd item. Whichever plan you choose, getting your prep right from the start sets you up for smoother operations as you grow.
