How to Create an Effective Amazon Product Title for Each Category

Category-specific title formulas that follow Amazon guidelines and rank well.

Why Category Matters for Titles

Amazon has different title guidelines for different categories. What works in electronics does not work in grocery. Clothing titles need size and colour. Supplement titles need count and form. Understanding your category's specific conventions ensures your title both complies with Amazon's rules and matches what buyers in that category expect to see.

General Title Principles

Regardless of category, certain principles apply universally. Put your most important keyword near the beginning. Include your brand name. State what the product actually is in clear terms. Include the most critical differentiating attribute — whether that is size, colour, quantity, or material. Stay within your category's character limit, typically 150 to 200 characters.

Electronics and Tech Products

Formula: Brand + Product Type + Key Feature + Compatibility + Colour/Size. Example: 'TechBrand Wireless Bluetooth Headphones with Active Noise Cancelling, Over-Ear, 40hr Battery, Black.' Electronics buyers need to quickly verify compatibility and key specs from the title alone. Include the most searched technical specification.

Health, Beauty, and Supplements

Formula: Brand + Product Type + Key Ingredient + Count/Size + Form. Example: 'NaturBrand Vitamin D3 4000 IU, 365 Tablets, One Year Supply, Vegetarian.' This category requires clarity about what you are getting — quantity, strength, and form are essential purchasing criteria that buyers filter on.

Home and Kitchen

Formula: Brand + Product Type + Material + Size/Dimensions + Colour + Key Feature. Example: 'HomeBrand Bamboo Chopping Board Set of 3, Non-Slip Feet, Juice Groove, Natural.' Home products need physical attributes clearly stated because buyers cannot touch or measure the product. Include dimensions where relevant.

Clothing and Fashion

Formula: Brand + Department + Product Type + Feature + Size/Colour (if not in variation). Example: 'StyleBrand Women's Waterproof Running Jacket, Lightweight Breathable, Reflective Details.' Fashion titles need to quickly communicate who the product is for and what makes it different from the hundreds of similar items.

Testing and Iterating Titles

Use Manage Your Experiments (for brand-registered sellers) to A/B test different title structures. Track click-through rate from search results and conversion rate on the listing page. Small title changes can have significant impact on both metrics. Test one variable at a time — keyword position, inclusion of a specific attribute, or format structure — so you know what caused any change in performance.
