What You Need Before You Start
Before you begin the registration process, gather the following: a valid passport or driving licence for identity verification, a recent bank statement or utility bill for address verification, a UK bank account where Amazon will deposit your earnings, a credit or debit card for your seller account fees, and your phone number for verification codes.
If you are registering as a business rather than an individual, you will also need your company registration number from Companies House.
Step-by-Step Registration
Head to sellercentral.amazon.co.uk and click "Register." Amazon will ask you to sign in with an existing Amazon account or create a new one. Many sellers create a separate Amazon account for their business rather than using their personal shopping account.
You will choose your business location (United Kingdom) and business type — most new sellers start as either an individual or a sole trader. Enter your personal details exactly as they appear on your identity documents, as Amazon cross-references these during verification.
Next, provide your bank account details. This is where Amazon will send your payouts every two weeks. You will also add a credit card that Amazon can charge for your monthly subscription fee if you choose the Professional plan.
Identity Verification
Amazon takes identity verification seriously. You will need to upload a photo of your passport or driving licence plus a bank statement or utility bill dated within the last 90 days. The name and address must match across your documents.
After uploading, Amazon may schedule a video call to verify your identity. This is a short call where you hold up your documents to the camera. It sounds intimidating but it is quick and routine — Amazon does this with every new seller.
Individual vs Professional Plan
During registration, you will choose between the Individual and Professional selling plans. The Individual plan has no monthly fee but charges £0.75 per item sold. The Professional plan costs £25 per month (excluding VAT) but has no per-item fee and gives you access to additional tools including advertising and detailed reports.
If you plan to sell more than 33 items per month, the Professional plan is more cost-effective. Most serious FBA sellers go straight to Professional, but you can always switch later.
Completing Your Seller Profile
Once your account is approved, take time to fill out your seller profile properly. Add your business name, a brief description, and your return address. Set up your shipping settings and notification preferences. Familiarise yourself with the Seller Central dashboard — it is where you will manage everything from listings to inventory to payments.
Common Registration Issues
The most common problem is document mismatches. If the name on your passport differs from your bank statement (even slightly), Amazon may reject your application. Double-check everything matches before submitting. If your application is paused or rejected, Amazon will tell you why — address the specific issue and resubmit.
What Comes Next
With your account set up, you are ready to start listing products and sending stock to Amazon. The learning curve from here is about understanding product research, fees, and how to prep your stock correctly. Take it one step at a time, and do not rush into buying large quantities of stock until you understand the fundamentals.
If you would rather focus on sourcing and let someone else handle the prep and shipping side, that is exactly what Precision does. We get your stock Amazon-ready so you can concentrate on growing your business.
