How to Find Wholesale Suppliers in the UK for Amazon FBA

Where to find legitimate UK wholesalers, how to approach them professionally, and what to ask before opening a trade account.

September 2026

Finding reliable wholesale suppliers is one of the biggest hurdles for Amazon sellers moving beyond arbitrage. Unlike retail sourcing where you can start immediately, wholesale requires building relationships — but the payoff is a more consistent and scalable supply chain.

Where to Find UK Wholesalers

Trade shows are the single best place to meet suppliers in person. Spring Fair and Autumn Fair at the NEC Birmingham are the largest general merchandise trade shows in the UK. There are also category-specific shows — Toy Fair London, the Natural & Organic Products Exhibition, GLEE (garden and outdoor), and many more.

Online directories are useful for initial research. Faire is a popular wholesale marketplace that connects independent retailers with brands. Wholesale Clearance UK lists closeout deals. Alibaba is primarily for overseas manufacturers but some UK distributors list there too. The Federation of Wholesale Distributors (FWD) can point you to legitimate UK distributors.

Google searching for "[product category] wholesale UK" or "[brand name] UK distributor" often leads you directly to supplier websites with trade enquiry forms.

How to Approach a Supplier

Your first contact should be professional. Email is usually best. Introduce your business, explain that you are an online retailer (mentioning Amazon is fine — be honest about it), and express interest in opening a trade account. Keep it concise.

Have your business details ready: business name, address, any relevant registration numbers, and VAT number if registered. Some suppliers require a minimum of these before they will set up an account.

If you are a sole trader without a fancy company name, that is absolutely fine. Many successful Amazon sellers operate as sole traders. What matters is presenting yourself professionally and being clear about your intentions.

Questions to Ask Suppliers

What is the minimum order quantity or value? What are the payment terms — pro forma, 30 days, or something else? Do they have an Amazon-specific policy? What is their returns process for faulty or incorrect items? Do they offer any marketing support or product images you can use? And crucially — can they provide invoices that Amazon might request as proof of authenticity?

Amazon occasionally asks sellers to provide invoices proving their products are genuine. Having proper wholesale invoices (not receipts from retail purchases) is important for staying compliant.

Evaluating Suppliers

Not every supplier will be a good fit. Some have minimum orders that are too high for testing. Others have brands that are already saturated on Amazon. A few may not want their products sold on marketplaces at all.

Start by ordering a small test quantity. Evaluate the product quality, delivery reliability, and communication. If everything checks out and the products sell well on Amazon, you have found a supplier worth building a relationship with.

Building Long-Term Relationships

The best supplier relationships develop over time. Pay on time, communicate clearly about any issues, and be consistent with your orders. As trust builds, you may receive better pricing, early access to new products, and priority during high-demand periods.

Some suppliers offer retrospective discounts based on annual volume — buying £10,000 worth over a year might earn you a 5% rebate. Others offer better unit pricing on larger orders. These improvements compound over time and significantly improve your margins.

Red Flags to Watch For

Be cautious of suppliers who require large upfront payments with no track record, cannot provide proper invoices, or seem evasive about their relationship with the brands they carry. Counterfeit goods are a serious issue on Amazon, and buying from unauthorised sources puts your account at risk.

Stick with authorised distributors and brands wherever possible. The slight premium in cost is worth the security of knowing your products are genuine and your account is protected.
