Getting Your Supply List Right
Running out of packing supplies mid-session is frustrating and inefficient. Having a complete, well-stocked supply station means you can prep continuously without interruption. The right supplies also ensure Amazon accepts your shipments without issue — incorrect packaging or missing labels lead to receiving delays and potential charges at the fulfilment centre.
Poly Bags
Amazon requires poly bagging for many product types: anything with loose parts, products in non-scannable packaging, fabric items, and anything that could be contaminated during storage. Stock multiple sizes — small bags for individual items, larger ones for multipacks. All poly bags must have a suffocation warning if the opening is larger than 127mm. Buy in bulk from packaging suppliers like Polypost or Amazon itself.
Suffocation Warning Labels
If your poly bags do not already have a printed suffocation warning, you need self-adhesive stickers. These are required on any poly bag with an opening greater than 127mm. The warning must be legible and prominent. Rolls of suffocation stickers are inexpensive and essential — a single missing warning can cause your entire shipment to be flagged at receiving.
FNSKU Labels
Every item sent to FBA needs an Amazon barcode label covering or replacing the manufacturer barcode. Print these from Seller Central on compatible label sheets. The standard size is 1 x 2.625 inches, fitting 30 labels per A4 sheet. Alternatively, use a thermal label printer for individual labels — faster, cheaper per label in the long run, and no ink costs. Ensure labels scan clearly before applying.
Bubble Wrap and Protective Materials
Fragile items need protection beyond Amazon's standard requirements. Bubble wrap, foam inserts, and inflatable packaging prevent breakage during the multiple handling stages within Amazon's network. Amazon does not reimburse you for items that break because of inadequate packaging from the seller. Invest in proper protection — it costs less than the product replacement and negative review.
Boxes and Tape
Use sturdy corrugated boxes that meet Amazon's requirements. Maximum weight per box is 23kg for non-oversize items. Boxes must be in good condition — no damage, excessive tape, or previous shipping labels. Use strong packing tape to seal boxes securely. Reinforce the bottom seam with an H-pattern tape application. Label each box clearly with the Amazon shipment labels printed from your shipping plan.
Where to Buy Supplies Cheaply
Packaging suppliers like Davpack, Rajapack, and Polypost offer trade pricing for bulk orders. Amazon itself sells prep supplies through its FBA prep products catalogue. eBay often has competitive prices on label sheets and poly bags. Consider local packaging wholesalers for boxes — buying locally eliminates shipping costs on bulky items. Compare unit costs across suppliers quarterly as prices change.
