Email Marketing for Amazon Sellers: Building a List

How to build and use an email list to drive repeat purchases and launch new products.

Why Email Still Works

Email marketing delivers some of the highest returns of any marketing channel. For Amazon sellers, an email list provides something the platform itself does not — a direct communication line to interested customers. You can notify subscribers about new product launches, drive traffic during promotions, request feedback, and build long-term relationships that translate into repeat sales.

Building Your List

Amazon does not share customer email addresses with sellers, so you need to build your list through external channels. Your own website with email capture forms is the primary method. Offer something valuable in exchange for email signup — a discount code, a useful guide, or exclusive early access to new products. Social media can also drive email signups when you promote your signup offer to followers.

Product inserts in your Amazon packages can direct customers to your website where they can join your mailing list. You cannot include direct calls to action for reviews or off-Amazon purchases, but you can invite customers to register their product, access care guides, or join your community — all of which lead to email capture on your website.

What to Send

Effective email sequences for Amazon sellers include welcome emails introducing your brand and product range, new product launch announcements with links to your Amazon listing, educational content related to your product category, seasonal promotions timed around peak selling periods, and restock notifications for products customers previously bought.

Do not spam. Send valuable content at a reasonable frequency — weekly or fortnightly is usually right. Every email should either inform, entertain, or offer something genuinely useful to the subscriber. Lists with engaged subscribers who open and click are far more valuable than large lists with low engagement.

Launching Products with Email

One of the most powerful uses of an email list is product launches. When you release a new product on Amazon, sending your list to the listing on day one generates immediate sales velocity. This early momentum signals to Amazon's algorithm that the product is relevant and popular, boosting its ranking in search results. The result is a faster, more successful launch than starting from zero with no external traffic.

Tools and Platforms

Mailchimp, Klaviyo, and ConvertKit are popular email platforms for ecommerce sellers. They offer automation (trigger emails based on subscriber actions), segmentation (send different messages to different groups), and analytics (track opens, clicks, and conversions). Start with a free plan and upgrade as your list grows beyond the free tier limits.

Building an email list is a long-term investment. It takes months or years to build a substantial list, but once you have one, it becomes one of your most valuable business assets — a reliable source of traffic and sales that does not depend on any algorithm or platform.
