Diversifying Beyond Amazon: Other Platforms for Sellers

Other online marketplaces and sales channels to consider alongside Amazon — eBay, your own website, TikTok Shop, and multi-channel strategies.

October 2027

Relying solely on Amazon for your income carries risk. Platform changes, account issues, or fee increases can significantly impact your business overnight. Diversifying across multiple sales channels builds resilience and opens new revenue streams.

Why Diversify?

Amazon is an incredible platform, but you do not own it. Amazon sets the rules, controls the customer relationship, and can change policies at any time. If your account is suspended — even temporarily — your entire income stops. Selling on multiple platforms means no single platform can shut down your business.

eBay

eBay is the most natural second platform for Amazon sellers. The skills transfer directly — product research, listing creation, and fulfilment. eBay's fee structure is different (typically lower selling fees but no equivalent of FBA's fulfilment service), and the customer base is somewhat different.

Many products that sell well on Amazon also sell on eBay. The competition dynamics may differ — a product with heavy Amazon competition might have less eBay competition, and vice versa. Running both platforms simultaneously is manageable, especially with multi-channel listing tools.

Your Own Website

Building a website (using Shopify, WooCommerce, or similar) gives you complete control over your brand, customer relationships, and margins. There are no referral fees — just payment processing costs (typically 1.5–3%). You own the customer data, enabling email marketing and repeat purchases.

The challenge is traffic. Amazon provides built-in traffic from millions of shoppers. Your own website requires you to drive traffic through SEO, social media, paid advertising, or content marketing. It is a longer-term play but builds genuine brand equity.

TikTok Shop

TikTok Shop has grown rapidly in the UK as a sales channel. Products that lend themselves to video demonstration or have strong visual appeal can perform well here. The platform is still maturing, which means less competition but also less predictability than established marketplaces.

Multi-Channel Fulfilment

Amazon's Multi-Channel Fulfilment (MCF) service lets you use your FBA inventory to fulfil orders from other platforms. A customer orders on your website, and Amazon ships it from their warehouse. This simplifies logistics when selling across multiple channels.

Starting Multi-Channel

Do not try to launch on five platforms simultaneously. Pick one additional channel that complements your Amazon business, learn its dynamics, and build a presence before expanding further. Most sellers start with eBay due to the low learning curve, then add a website or other platform as their business matures.

The goal is not to abandon Amazon — it is to reduce your dependence on any single platform while growing your overall revenue.
