Black Friday and Cyber Monday on Amazon: Seller's Guide

How to prepare your Amazon FBA business for the biggest shopping weekend of the year — stock planning, pricing, advertising, and timing.

January 2028

Black Friday and Cyber Monday (BFCM) represent the single biggest sales opportunity on Amazon outside of the Christmas period itself. The combination of massive consumer demand, promotional activity, and gift-buying creates a perfect storm of sales potential.

The Scale of BFCM

Amazon's traffic during Black Friday and Cyber Monday is extraordinary. Daily sales can be 5–10 times normal levels in popular categories. Shoppers are actively looking to buy, prices are competitive, and the urgency of limited-time deals drives fast purchasing decisions.

Planning Your BFCM Strategy

Stock levels: This is the most critical factor. Running out of stock during BFCM means missing peak demand when every sale counts most. Analyse your sales velocity data, estimate 3–7 times normal daily sales (the multiplier varies by category), and have stock in Amazon's warehouse by late October at the absolute latest.

Pricing: You do not necessarily need to discount, but be aware that competitive pricing intensifies during BFCM. If competitors drop prices, you may need to adjust to maintain Buy Box share. Have a pricing strategy decided in advance — know your minimum acceptable price and be prepared to act quickly.

Advertising: Increase your PPC budgets for the BFCM period. CPCs may increase as more sellers compete for ad space, but conversion rates also increase because shoppers are in buying mode. The higher CPCs are usually justified by higher sales volume.

Timing Matters

The BFCM sales period has expanded in recent years. Amazon now runs Black Friday deals for an entire week, with Cyber Monday extending through the following week. Sales increases start even earlier as shoppers begin researching purchases.

Have your inventory, pricing, and advertising ready at least two weeks before Black Friday. Last-minute preparations risk being caught out by slow receiving times or advertising approval delays.

Categories That Perform Well

Almost every category sees a BFCM boost, but electronics, toys, home and kitchen, and health and beauty tend to see the largest increases. Gift-able products perform especially well as shoppers buy for others. Consider which of your products have gift potential and ensure they are well-stocked.

Post-BFCM

December remains strong as Christmas shopping continues. Do not relax after Cyber Monday — maintain your stock levels and advertising through to mid-December. Post-Christmas, review your performance and start planning for the next year's seasonal calendar.
