Amazon Attribution: Measuring Off-Amazon Marketing

How to use Amazon Attribution to track the impact of your external marketing on Amazon sales.

November 2026

What Amazon Attribution Does

Amazon Attribution is a measurement tool that tells you how your external marketing drives sales on Amazon. If you run Facebook ads, Google ads, email campaigns, or social media posts that link to your Amazon listings, Attribution tracks which clicks resulted in product views, add-to-carts, and purchases. Without it, you are guessing about the effectiveness of your off-Amazon marketing spend.

Why It Matters

Amazon's internal advertising (Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands) has built-in performance tracking. But if you spend money driving traffic from Instagram, TikTok, email, or Google to your Amazon listings, you need a way to measure whether that spend is producing a return. Attribution fills this gap by providing detailed conversion data for external traffic sources.

This data lets you make informed decisions about where to allocate your marketing budget. If Facebook ads are driving sales but TikTok is not, you can shift spend accordingly. Without Attribution, you are flying blind on these decisions.

How to Set It Up

Attribution is available to brand-registered sellers through Seller Central. You create attribution tags — unique tracking URLs — for each marketing channel you want to measure. When you run a Facebook ad, you use the Facebook attribution tag as the destination URL. When someone clicks that ad and eventually buys on Amazon, the sale is attributed to that Facebook campaign.

You can create separate tags for different campaigns, channels, and even individual posts, giving you granular data about what is working and what is not.

The Brand Referral Bonus

One of the most compelling reasons to use Attribution is the Brand Referral Bonus. Amazon rewards sellers who drive external traffic to the platform by rebating a percentage of the referral fee on sales generated through Attribution-tagged links. This effectively reduces your Amazon selling fees on externally driven sales, improving your margins.

The bonus typically ranges from 10 to 25 percent of the referral fee, depending on the product category. On high-volume products, this adds up to significant savings over time.

What the Data Shows You

Attribution reports include impressions, clicks, detail page views, add-to-carts, purchases, and sales value. You can see the entire funnel from click to purchase and identify where drop-offs occur. If plenty of people click but few buy, your listing may need optimisation. If few people click at all, your ad creative or targeting needs work.

Amazon Attribution turns your external marketing from an expense you hope is working into a measurable investment with clear returns. For any brand-registered seller spending money on external marketing, it is an essential tool.
